How to Reduce LCD Chipping with Glass Scribing Wheel?

 LCD cutting

LCD cutting process put a large glass on the cutting machine platform. Then set the cutting route for the scribing wheel, and apply a certain cutting pressure to make the wheel roll along the set trajectory. Under the guidance, it will draw a continuous scratch on the glass surface, which is what we commonly refer to as the cutting line.

Initially, the scribing wheelused for slicing LCDs were all toothless cutting wheels. The edges of these wheels were smooth. Since both the surface of the cutting wheel and the surface of the glass were smooth, such cutting wheels could not create deep vertical cracks when cutting lines on the glass. Therefore, LCDs cut with toothless wheels needed to be split using a splitting machine.

High-permeability scribing wheel

The high-permeability cutting wheel is made by processing fine cracks at equal intervals along the edge of the ordinary cutting wheel. To a certain extent, this reduces the possibility of generating transverse cracks. Therefore, the LCD produced by cutting with a high-permeability wheel does not require the use of a splitting machine for splitting; it can be split directly by hand. Thus, the high-permeability cutting wheel has become the mainstream product adopted in the current market.

 Fine-tooth Scribing Wheel
The micro-tooth scribing wheel belongs to a category of high-penetration cutting wheels. Compared with conventional high-penetration wheels, its cutting edge is finer and the tooth shape is smaller.

03  LCD cutting and splitting process flow
After the LCD is cut, it needs to be split and disconnected. Currently, there are two main methods:

They are: the secondary disconnection method and the direct disconnection method.

High-permeability Scribing Wheel fragmentation process:

a、Cutting process flow:

Using a high penetration cutting wheel to cut an LCD involves the following four main steps, in the following order:

① Cut along the long side of the TFT surface → ② Cut along the short side of the TFT surface → ③ Cut along the long side of the CF surface → ④ Cut along the short side of the CF surface. In summary: First the TFT surface, then the CF surface; first the long side direction, then the short side direction.

b、Splitting process :
Since the LCD is cut using a high penetration scribing wheel, the LCD fragments require a two-step dissection method. That is, in the first step, the large sheet glass is divided into strips, and in the second step, it is further divided into small pieces of glass.

Toothless Scribing Wheel cutting and fragmentation process:
a、Cutting process flow:
Using a toothless cutting wheel to cut an LCD involves the following six steps, in the following order:

① Cut the long side of the TFT surface → ② Cut the short side of the TFT surface → ③ Split the TFT surface with a splitting machine → ④ Cut the long side of the CF surface → ⑤ Cut the short side of the CF surface → ⑥ Split the CF surface with a splitting machine.

In summary: Cut the TFT surface first, split the TFT surface first; then cut the CF surface, split the CF surface last.

b、Splitting process (direct disconnection method):
Since the LCD is cut using a toothless cutting wheel, the LCD slivers are produced by the direct segmentation method, where the cut large plate glass is directly divided into small pieces of glass.
